im finally ready to get back to my 1949 wd, its not a bad tractor with a new engine on it and some small issues that need ironing out, but the major thing is the front end, its a wide front tractor, and at some point the tractor got dropped out of a airplane or something, the mount that has the 3 bolts on the front of the casting under the radiator are ruined, one is even broke out of the bottom of the casting the other 2 have pulled the threads completely out of the casting, its had some repair by chicken poop welding which of course didn't hold, i think ive figured a way to fix this, it will mainly be a light duty enjoy tractor, im injured permanently so my working tractor days are over, but now i have a 'tractor collection', that way the wife wont get the idea to sell them, now i can fabricate a piece of 4 inch by 3'8ths steel to wrap around the whole front casting, using the bolts on the sides of the casting to locate it, after grinding the chicken poop off flush with the casting, the original triangle axle mount could be cut and welded to the bottom of the new steel, followed by welding a plate over the weld for reinforcement, that should hold up to anything this tractor would ever do, now before i do that, what about just converting the tractor to narrow front, whats involved with that? im not afraid of narrow front tractors, i grew up using them, and know what they can and cannot do
