Guy bought a WD over and he wants me to take the magneto off and replace it with a distributor. He tells me a distributor from a Farmall will fit on the WD and is a better distributor. Can anybody enlighten me on those facts? I would like to know before I start looking for parts. Thanks

Yes, an "IH Battery Ignition" unit will fit and work well.

Another common, easy to get basic electrical parts for unit is the vertical distributor Delcos that were sold to fit 'most any brand.

Many AC's had them.

Would this work on a 1938 B also?

Not all of them will and I do not remember which ones will and which will not

IIRC, ALL IH 4 cylinder "battery ignition systems EXCEPT for gas-start diesels should work, although there's some variations in the advance curve.

I have electric start already, need info on which ones would bolt up at the magneto flange, not just the vertical shafted part. Info greatly appreciated.

Are you looking to use a Delco (like in photo I posted), or and IH "battery ignition unit"?

Either way, the magneto flanges are pretty much an industry standard and will "bolt up". (There may be some exceptions with much older stuff, some used a "long lug" mag drive.)

Distributor units that fit IH A B C H M, and their successors should all bolt up to Allis A B C, etc..
