Allis g piston direction

I bought an Allis g that was torn down all the way with the crank and Pistons out. Previous owner was rebuilding but had serious health problems and sold it. My question is which side of the engine does the slot in the Pistons go to. I think the valve side but I'm not sure enough to to put it back. Does anyone know this for sure. Thanks for your help.

Working now.

Are you working with aftermarket aluminum pistons that have one side of the skirt "split" from beneath the wrist pin downward?

If this is what you are working with, the "split" side goes on the non-thrust side, which on this little engine would be the camshaft/valve side, IMHO.

The A/C "G" uses the N-62 Continental engine which is the same as the Earthmaster, M-H Pony and some small early Towmotor fork lifts. They will have different type numbers for each engine.
