True about the 426, but you have to turn down the rpm,s to around 2350, then they live a long life
 
Factory Hi idle was set at 2800-2850 RPM's, which was simply too fast for the engine, but better for the transmission, which was why that was done. Slowing that down to 2550 to 2600 RPM is a very good idea. Leaving the HP set at no more than 180 HP is an even better idea. These tractors were built in a time where when the Customer was buying 180 HP, he expected it to be "turned-up" to 220 HP and that in itself was the eventual death of the engine.
