Traction Booster Gauge D17

My D17, series 1 has had the tiny line that goes to the traction booster gauge broken off on the rear of the gauge since I got the tractor 5 years ago. There is a small bit of leakage but a nail in the line stopped that.

The nut which holds the line to the gauge is impossible to get. I have spent over $30 buying brass fittings and adapters. None fit. I finally just gave up. gauge dont seem to work anyhow. The needle is at the top (right) of the scale and stays there.

What does this gauge do anyhow?

What if I just eliminate the line and plug the hole where the line connects? The tractor works with the line broken off, so why fix it....

I do like to have things repaired, but they want at least $100 for a gauge, and will it have the needed fitting?

If anyone knows where I can get the REAL fitting, I would at least connect it. But I have been screwing with this issue for 4 years and am fedup with it.

Thanks

Plug it, clamp it, fold it, or just stop it off somehow and be done with it. I'm surprised your nail worked, as there can be a lot of pressure there.
Those gauges actually worked. When pulling a mounted, or semi mounted plow, if you adjusted the traction booster lever so the gauge read about in the middle, you knew you getting maximum benefit from the system.

Once ya get used to plowing with it, you can "Feel" if weight transfer is helping...

A lot depends on the condition of your Shares..

A NEW set may cause the front to be light with the hydraulic lever all the way down ( and you holding the hand clutch lever back to help keep the front lower...
OR..as they wear, the Hydraulic lever may need to be raised...eventually to nearly 1/2 way..!

WD tractors didnt come with a gauge and they worked just the same..

The gauge is nice, but not necessary..
