WD45 Shifter Rotates......

I just bought my Dad a WD45 for his birthday. When I bought it I knew that the shifter rotates. Can anyone tell me if this is an easy fix please. This makes it very hard for him put it in gear. Thanks

Pull the shift boot. Under that there should be a snap ring and washer. Take thought out and carefully pull the shift lever. There are supposed to be 2 square headed pins in the shift tower that ride in grooves in the shifter. I bet those are missing. Several aftermarket sources for them.

I bought a WD45 several years ago, only because it was in amazingly good condition. But, the shifter was junk! I ended up buying a shift lever, because the grooves were so shot in the original lever. I was disappointed that they had changed the style of the shift lever so that it no longer was tapered, with the little ball on the top. If I had known that, I might have tried to rebuild the original.

Those pins are available oversized. As I recall, both ends-the round part that goes in the housing, and the square end that goes in the lever, are oversized. If used, some grinding/machining/drilling may be required.

Quite often, there's room for a thin washer between the snap ring and the special cupped washer.

Amen to that. I was surprised how chunky the replacement shifters are all the way up.
