What is lever beside clutch pedal For? It locks pedal down on WD.

Locks it out for hand starting or setting the belt pulley.

And.......if the tractor sits outside for months at a time, it will allow the clutch to be disengaged to prevent it from rusting fast to the flywheel/pressure plate.

would add , starting in cold weather is much easier when hand cranking if the clutch pedal is propped down and it is a lot safer, if you accidently left it in gear you won't get ran over when it starts.

Rule 1 around my farm. Always, always, always start with tranny in neutral and foot on clutch.

Like Aaron says, it was primarily for belt pulley work. When the pulley is engaged and belted up, it is the only way to stop the driven machine and leave the engine running. And of course for hand cranking while belted up.

Here are the directions for use of the clutch pedal lock during Hand cranking the engine and use with the belt pulley from the WD Operator's Manual.
