D19 Rear Tire Width

Well overheat issue fixed.

Now I am trying to move rear tires inward a few inches to match my snowblower width. Does anyone know how to break the rim free from the axle? Service manual says to remove three 5/8 cap screws on retaining collar, then insert three 3/4 inch jack screws into holes. I did that and turned with large breaker bar and pipe. I was close to breaking the breaker bar and no movement of the retaining collar at all.

I also want to correct what I would call over toe-out of the front wheels but I am unable to break loose the steering arms where they are adjustable. I have saturated both my problems areas with PB Blaster for several days.

Any suggestions would be welcome, thanks!

Loosen the cap bolts then screw them back in finger tight. Then drive it around a bit. Listen for the area to start to make popping sounds. Once they do then stop and you should be able to move the wheels

So, you actually have the SPECIAL JACKSCREWS that came with the tractor when it was new?? They are not just an ordinary 3/4" bolt. The special pusher bolts will have to be very tight and smack the end of the axle with a sledge hammer with the wheel off of the ground......and then hope they break loose.

No, I do not have the original jackscrews. Just used grade 8, 3/4 inch bolts. Maybe that is why it wasn't working?

I have freed up tie rods by taking them off the tractor and placing them on an anvil and tapping just hard enough to jar the outer part, not hitting hard enough to actually dent it. This may slightly expand the outer tube too.

You must have the factory issued pusher bolts !!!!! Now, you may have damaged the beginning threads for your 5/8" retaining bolts. Be careful when you thread the 5/8" bolts back into place, they might need a tap to clean up the threads on the wheel center.

You are right they buggered up the threads a bit. I did clean out with a tap and the 5/8 one started fine. Where would one find the correct pusher bolts.
Any idea what the ends look like and how they work?
