I look at it this way those 4 bolt fronts will bring $400,got to be at least $400 worth of tires and rims on the back and they will fit a lot of different tractors, easily over $200 worth of other parts.
So it wouldn't be a looser for me if the motor needed something major I could part it to get my money back. That said I probably wouldn't pay $1000 because I don't want a WD45 to use and I wouldn't make much profit parting it out.I'd go $600 because if it ain't a bargain I don't buy.

Thanks, my thought was around $500-$600 as well. I doubt they'll take it but you never know. If I bought it I'd want to repair it and use it. I'm sure they'll argue the value is in the parts, but as you outline, parting it out by no means makes it a money maker.

"because if it ain't a bargain I don't buy."

A fellow bottom feeder.

I don't often read the AC board but am the same way with Fords.
And I ALWAYS ask if there's any manuals, spare parts and or implements that go with it.
:)

A running WD45 engine can be had for around $500. Worst case scenario, you do that and have a $1500 WD45. I'd be leery not knowing how the tranny was. I bought a stuck WD45 for parts once and it took me $700. Went to pull it on the roll back and discovered the tranny was rusted solid as well. I came out ok on the deal, but not what I was after. The one pictured as discussed above, is worth more in pieces than a whole machine.

about what i have in trade for my wd, mine has a new engine and will be fine when i fix the front axle support, i traded a farmall cub in reasonable working condition for the allis, and i had around 800 in it, i like allis as there was always one on the farm but it was a d 17 , quite a bit more tractor,, one thing about them its good cheap hp, and out west here there few and far between

Now there's an idea, if only I lived in the land of tractor boneyards! Out here in the Northeast everything costs more than it should and parts machines are few and far between. I certainly could get another engine from out west, but I think the shipping would be cost prohibitive? Parting it out to break even or come out a little ahead isn't appealing to me - if it were that easy that is what the seller would be doing already. I thought about the tranny as well, not sure how I could check to see if it were stuck if the motor is stuck too, any suggestions?

If the seller is willing to do Fastenal, I shipped a D17 engine in the Midwest for $100. Depending on how stuck it is, you might get by with acetone/ATF. Not for $1000 though.

Like an old Gypsy that was a friend of mine that ran a small tractor place used to say "Make me a cash offer I might surprise both of us"(LOL) J.V Webster died a few years back miss him a
lot he was born in a tent down in NC.

Thanks all, I'll probably take a look and make an offer if they still have it in a week. You never know how bad someone (or someone's significant other) wants a project gone. If I do pick it up, I'll
give it a good dose of marvel first and see what happens.

JMS did it have a stuck motor, did you get it unstuck and if so how? LOL. l I'm going to offer about that, maybe a little more but I don't have a trailer with a winch so I'd end up paying / owing a friend for hauling it home so there's that to account for too.

The motor was stuck. Just been sitting here...I put it into the shop last fall with the intention of trying the 50-50 mix of ATF and acetone to free the engine and haven"t gotten to it yet. Waiting for warm weather....was 16 below this morning so building the woodworkng room in the basement sounds like more fun!

I know the value has crashed on tractors but I would like to buy one for $500. The down side is to restore it would break the bank. If you have a use for it and know its good and bad features thats a lot of tractor running, working for even $2500.

I hear that had 5 degrees this morning, going to be 2 tomorrow. Can't wait for spring, if only we could avoid the mud that's sure to come!

My grandfather had a WD that I still have, but it would need even more work than this one to get going (4 tires and rims all around just to start). Orange is in my blood I guess and I especially like the look of the old WD/45s. For my small operation it's the perfect tractor so I'm always looking out for one. Going to see if I can get out there and take a look this weekend I'll let everyone know how it pans out.

To me a tractor that isn't running and is stuck is a parts tractor when you are thinking price. You don't know what you find in the engine and the rest of the tractor
when you can't run and drive it. It may free up with little work and be a fine tractor. Then the engine may need a rebuild, the transmission could have problems or some
other combination of $$$. Not running=parts tractor price. It may not be what the owner wants but if he is a reasonable person he will understand as he probably wouldn't
buy a not running stuck tractor for anything above parts price.

Engine stuck - its a $500 tractor with most of that value in the tires. They are so old that the tin isn't worth much. So $350 in tires and $150 in scrap metal.

A good running Allis around me for the past few years will not bring over $750 no mater how good the tires are or overal condition as well

Only consider buying it IF it has all the parts on it that you would need to get your curent tractor going and scrap the rest. If it has 4 good tires figure what it would cost to go to the parts yard to buy them for your tractor that only has sentiment value. Friend had retirement auction last fall and if I remember correctly his good running Allis with good tires did not even bring $500 His Farmall F20 that was his compition plowing tractor with new tires did not bring 2/3 the value of those new rear tires. And a year ago he was still in the plowing contests with it. His AC round baler brought less than the pair of new tires he put on it. He would have been @200 ahead if he had just sold it for scrap instead of getting in operating shape for the sale.
