Firing order

Can anyone verified the firing order for a allis chalmers 170 serial number below 7500. Operator manual said 1-2-4-3
1 being right front 2 to the left next 4 then 3.

1-2-4-3 clockwise around the distributor cap. #1 needs to be in the cap where the rotor points when #1 cylinder is ready to fire. That location may or may not match a photo depending on how the distributor was installed.
 
So I guess I'm way over my head.
I will have to call a tractor repair
shop to come and get it because I
message it up and do not know what order
it was in, On the second tractor. Boy
when you get older you just can't
remember stuff.
 
You say second tractor. Are you still working on the same tractor you posted the photos for? What exactly have you done since it last ran? Did you remove the distributor or just the plug wires?

If you only removed the plug wires you can find #1 position in the cap by the method that has been posted many times. Pull all the spark plugs out so the engine will turn easy. Put your finger over the # 1 plug hole. While tightly holding your finger there use the starter (you may need a helper and be sure the tractor is in neutral) to bump the engine over. Stop bumping it as soon as your finger is being pushed firmly away. Look at where the distributor rotor is pointing. That should be pointing at the hole where you put the # 1 plug wire in the cap. Install the other wires from there in a clockwise direction.
 
Figuring out firing order is not rocket since it is simple to do.
#1 pull the distributor cap but first mark where the #1 plug wire is on the side of the distributor cap.
#2 pull the #1 spark plug the one closest to the radiator. Then slowly turn the engine over till the piston is at TDC. Note which way the rotor was turning also.
Is the rotor lined up with the mark you made before you pulled the cap off?? If it is not your either on the exhaust stoke or you have the firing order wrong
 
i"m working on two allis 170.
so i don't confused myself i refer it as second sorry.
rebuilt carb. replaced points, cap, roto.
so when you say were the rotor points is it the side with the metal that sticks out to make contact with the cap.

Yes, the spark will be going from the metal end "pointer" of the rotor button to the post in the distributor cap it is pointing at. By the way the metal end of the rotor button [u:cce9c916b3]does not [/u:cce9c916b3]touch the contacts in the distributor cap. The spark has to jump a gap there. If they touch they break.

Okay first picture removed plug put paper towel in spark plug hole push start button paper towel shot out removed cap and took picture.
Second picture put paper towel in hole again leaving cap off push start button. Got the same picture. So it's in between 1 and 3
 
The following assumes the paper towel blew out before # 1 was completely at top dead center and you stopped cranking it quickly when it blew out. If you were standing beside the distributor, looking down at the rotor it should have been turning clockwise(rotor end turning to you in your photo). Put the number one plug wire in the hole the rotor is approaching. Install the other wires, following the firing order, clockwise in the cap from # 1.

If you think you cranked it past #1 top dead center, put the #1 wire in the hole the rotor just past, then install the other plug wires in the firing order.
