Ca shifter handle

This is a pitiful question but i don't have a manual. My ca shifter handle rotates. It works ok if you know where the gears are and hold it from turning but it makes it awkward. I assume there should be a roll pin or some sort of side pins to stop the rotation. Also does it come out the top or do i have to do it thru the side plate? Thanks. I'm more of an engine and electric guy but live and learn right...

under the boot will be a snap ring and a washer
shift lever has machined grooves that square headed pins ride in to
guide the lever. heads could be worn off pins, and or groove in lever is worn.
when pulling lever out, be sure pins don't fall into the transmission case

There are over size pins available also.

My puller C had a shifter lever that rotated from the time I bought the tractor until I quit pulling. Probly 15 years or more. Never caused a shifting problem for me. The end of the shifter is wore on the end as well as some on the side plate.

Mine does it too the others have coved it. I had lots of shifter trouble on wd/wd45 too.

Sorry all I saw was the C without connecting the a to mean CA.

So i got a manual. The CA didn't have the pins. Rotation doesn't seem to be a problem so on to bigger problems. So far tank is fixed and paint is drying. Valve cover gasket fixed. Exhaust support bracket fixed. Hood shroud and nose fixed straightened and bolted correctly. Wiring is done except one wire to connect key to voltage regulator as i haven't got to check generator yet and i have a12v battery on it just because that's what was laying in the shop. Carb is done too. This one is coming along pretty good.

My apologies to you and Dick L. You have a straight shift lever so turning doesn't matter. I was thinking four speed in the D series.

No problem! I have two CA transmissions out here that jumped out of gear that I never opened up. I bought a bunch of gears for them off ebay with hopes there might be a good replacement for them. Probly never get to them now. The years fly by.

I was able to download one for my CA. Just do a google search for it. It is a JenSales manual but I can't copy the link for some reason.
