D17 Capacities

Hey guys! Friend of mine wants me to diagnose his D17, and change ALL (engine oil, hydraulic, gear, power steering, coolant...) the fluids. Burning oil should be easy to diagnose, but can anyone help me with capacities and fluid types used. It's a series IV. He doesn't have a manual for it and I'm an IH guy.

Thanks for the help!

I would strongly advise him to get you a manual. The dollars may save many more down the road. They are a little more complex than say a farmall M where you can pretty much just wing it.

Get the service and operator's manuals, it is money well spent (The Allis manuals are not near as expensive as some other brands). My personal choice is OEM manuals (new, used, or reprints) before the I&T manuals. The YT store has a number of D17 manuals, you can check with them. You can purchase the OEM manuals at
https://www.agcopubs.com/ printed, or downloads if you want them quick and want an electronic copy, They show one service manual # 79003408 for all the D17s. The Series 4 operator's manual shows as # 70257959.

You can view the on line parts book (# 79003152) at http://www.agcopartsbooks.com/PartsBooksN/login.aspx?region=NorthAmerica so there is no need to purchase one unless it is one's preference to have their own copy.

Hydraulic system takes 6 gallons or a tad more. Fill to the upper full mark after sitting for some time. Two drain plugs...one down from the clutch pedal and the other down from the hydraulic pump. Hyd filter under the battery. Transmission takes 6 gallons. Drain plug directly under the seat. All drain plugs take a 1 1/8" wrench and have a gasket on them. Use modern day Hy-Tran type oil. Engine is 6 to 7 quarts. Power steering is 5 quarts. Also use Hy-Tran.
