If I were to have one of those graphics of the family in the back window of the car, it'd probably be something like this.

Actually, what happened was I have to crack open a fresh gallon of Persian 2 to paint Kim's D10 governor (a little mistake I made in the restoration) and figured I'd refresh at least all the hoods since I'll be wasting a pot of primer, paint, and clear coat if I don't have more to do. Hoods seemed easy to prepare so while they were lined up, I couldn't resist snapping a photo. These are D17D, D15D, D14, and D12. It would be more interesting to have a D19 in the line, but I'm not painting that.
While I was at it, I'll restore all the badges too, have some paint sticks I need to use up and those work great for the logos. I'm not actually doing the D14 hood, it's a spare.

That had surprised me too, I have complete spare D14 sheet metal I was going to put on the D15 when I got it. Shroud, Hood, Channel, tank are all different. Shock came when I started taking measurements. Even the rear fender mounts are taller on the 15. I am going to use D14 wheel guards on it though.

Yep, I haven't done all the measurements, but the seat mount, wheel guards, and rims may be about all they share in major parts. I haven't checked torque tube and transmission casting, but everything I've checked was made wider and taller by just over an inch. It was a big letdown since I bought the tractor on the assumption that I wouldn't have to repair the sheet metal. As a result, I've spent the last few weeks doing sheet metal work on some damaged parts that most people would wisely throw away, with dubious results. I already have about 16 hours in the right hood and am still displeased with it's warpage. I had to buy another shroud and even it is missing 6 inches out of the bottom middle. Sheet metal work can really eat up time.

They really are surprisingly different tractors. They had almost 300 pounds on the D14 even with the first block on the gas engine (according to Nebraska's earliest test, and over 500 with the early diesel). I was surprised too but after living around both for a bit, my D14 seems lanky and lean. Like my son said, the D15D seems to be more like a stubby D17. Of course the big tires on the 15 are what really give that feeling.

I shot a picture of the difference in the radiator shrouds tonight, you can see it has an inch difference all they way around (more on the side) and that translates back to the tank.
