Allis chalmers WD hydraulic's doesn't operate properly

I have AC WD problem with hydraulics. When tractor starts the 3 pt. arms raise but I can't get them to go down. The arms raise even with lever in the down position. I previously had the loader attached with blade for snow plowing. This worked perfect. I removed the loader now want to use the 3 pt.
Any ideas where to start trouble shooting? It appears pump works but is there a check valve or something that may not be releasing?
Thank you for any help. I'm not a mechanic FYI.

If you have an operators manual you can look at the diagram that should be on the battery box for setting the pump. Start there, then check all the linkages and whatnot. A Google search will find the diagram as well. It is NOT power down, so it drops very slow with nothing on it. With the lever down, can you push or stand on the arms and make them drop?

Is that with or with out a machine on the 3 point?? If nothing is on the 3 point yep it can take hours for the arms to go down. If it has something on it there is a thumb wheel knob on the hyds that is set wrong can cause that also. Or you may have a linkage problem. Or have what I had happen on my WD45 and the piece of equipment I had on was hanging on the draw bar due to the machine sitting to close to the bar

Yes I have the operators manual and the diagram on battery box. I have tired to stand on the arms and they won't go down.
The arms go up in the down position.

This happens with no equipment on it. I can stand on it and it won't go down. You may be right it may be a linkage problem. I will check that out next week. It seems odd that it goes up when lever is in the down position.
thanks for your advice.

I know what you are talking about. I had issues with mine also except it would not raise. I finally drained the hydraulic fluid and took the pump off. There was a lot of junk (50 years of stuff) in the reservoir that was forced thru the drain plug with a paint stick. I cleaned everything up and took the pump apart and clean everything up. New O rings were installed, put together exactly as it was taken apart. I used silicone instead of gaskets as mine were in poor condition after having that pump apart 5 times. If you take it apart be sure that you pour some oil in the pump to get it primed. After it is pumping then it is just a matter of getting the linkages and adjustments done as the manual describes. It will be a little challenging getting the pump on and off. Bud
