Can't get WC shifter to move between gears???

So I have a little project that I'm undertaking and have run into a little snag. I have a WC that I can't get to shift between any of the gears. I had another shift tower laying around from one I had for parts and was going to change it out to see if that was it...and the reverse lock was intact on the new shifter. So I remove the old one and check the gears themselves to see if they slide. Yes they do so I don't think it has anything to do with them. I go to install the new tower and line up the forks the the grooves. Finger tighten the bolts and give it a try. Nope...still won't go into any gear. I have a running, driving WC so I know how it should somewhat feel like...and this stays locked in one spot or just 1/2 gear. I tool the tower back out and can't seem to move the shifter at all outside now either. What am I missing?? I feel stupid that I can't figure this out. It seems like it should have been easy :( Thank you in advance for any help you can give. In the last picture you can almost see that the pin in engaged into the 1/2 gear shift fork lug.

Well, before I got the forks stuck where they are now I could move them back and forth with a definite "click" at the end of the travel. Now it's all bound up lol.

(quoted from post at 06:52:04 03/13/21) what ever happened to your shifting problem I am working on the same issue and have searching for info

I believe it was just the trans and shifter itself was rusty/gritty. I moved the shifter handle through all gears outside the tractor and moved the gears around in the tractor. Both sat forever before I started on it. Once it started moving it kept getting better as it was worked. It was STIFF for the first bit...I was just being too gentle lol.

I've got mine tore apart now, you wouldn't believe the rust on the detent balls, enough to cause trouble. Did you see post from "old" where he suggested ATF to clean it up? anyways thanks for responding good luck and good spring!!
