16.9X28 tires on wd45

all,

Will the 16.9X28 tires off of a D17 fit on a wd45 rim? Also will the D17 rim with tires on it fit on the wd45? Or do I have to make modifications. Anyone done this, I think it would give good leverage.---adam

Just watch out for rim size. You can cheat a little, but going more than one size beyond recommended tire/rim combinations defeats the purpose. AC wasn't real generous with rims. A 14.9 tire should be on a 13" rim. A 16.9 tire should be on a 15" rim. I bought a WD45 and it only had 12" rims on it. So I went all the way and put 15" rims and 16.9 tires on it. It was OK, but it was over kill.

(quoted from post at 07:49:03 07/19/17) D17 rims will fit on WD45- it"s the same bolt pattern. It will increase your ground speed.

Thanks I will probably go that route. Put the D17's on a 45 with D17 engine. Power!!

To correct incorrect information above. Older D-17 rear wheels and centers absolutely will fit onto a WD or WD45. In fact, the wheels center is exactly the same part. 12 inch wide wheels was all I've ever seen on a WD45. I have a spring of 1957 WD45 with factory rear tires and they are 14.9 x 28 on a 12 inch wide wheel. 13 inch came on D-17's as best I can tell.

Somebody along the line put 13" wide wheels on my 1954 WD45 with 14.9 X 28 Firestone Road& Field. The tires look nice on 13" wheels.

I was at a tractor pull a few weeks ago and had a WD45 setting next to mine that had 16.9x28's on it and it only set 5" higher than mine with 14.9 X 28's.
