B Temp Gauge

I ordered a new temp gauge from this site to replace the broken one on my B while I had the cooling system torn down. The new part won't fit. It is supposed to fit all tractors of that era. But the sensing element is about 3/4 of an inch longer than the old part, and the threads won't reach the top of the thermostat housing. Any idea where I can get the right part? I assume I can't cut the sensor shorter without ruining it?

Push the brass nut all the way down against the "O" ring and make sure the "O" ring is down as far as it will go, it will work.
