We have an old C series Allis Chalmers. The serial number is (with the space)
C7 968

We are so confused. Is it missing numbers in the space? was there a C7 series? Help!!![/img]

Assuming the steering arm up front is original, it can't be an early one. They changed to the longer arm like your at serial number 18163. I am pretty sure there is a date cast into the side of the transmission housing. My boys has one in his. Knowing the actual year is nice, but not nearly as critical as if it were a collectable car. Check the engine serial number as suggested and look on the left side of the transmission for a casting date.

Thanks everyone for your responces.

It is kind of important that we get a date as close as possible because the family is putting grandpa's tractors up for Auction. I thought I would see what the experts would know..... you folks on this forum.

Here is the link to the listing (the vin on the site is missing the space between the 7 and the 0 .... and the 0 is suppose to be a 9.... arggggghhhhh )

Hopefully we can clear this up soon. 9 years difference is kinda large.

As a practical matter it really doesn't matter as they were all virtually the same tractor.

The serial # is hand stamped so it could have an oversized space by accident. If a digit is missing it would be a 1949 and if not it is a 1941.Check the serial # on the engine. It's on the left side when you are sitting on it. Check on the edge of the casting where the engine bolts to the torque tube, it should read CE######.

Good chance there was a number there at onetime but has since gotten rubbed off. So if that is the case it would make it the last year they where made since the first on of the last year has a starting number of 6XXXX
