What happens to the pump on a 45 diesel when left sitting for a long time? I have read post about pumps on the diesels.

I have dads 57 45 diesel. He ran it out of fuel in 1987. It sat till 94. I put fuel in it and we pulled it about five feet and it started. I guess we were lucky?

If you've turned the engine over its too late for the test.

Sure got that right. I wish guys would at least remove the pump drive gear before turning the engine, then maybe the pump can be saved. Don't even try to time the pump, worry about timing later..

If the head has a broken plunger, then yes it's toast. Time to start looking for another good used head assembly or working pump.

I had also considered buying a landrover and trailer, but the price of a ... [Read Article]
