AC CA Alternator

Recently purchased an Allis Chalmers CA. Believe it is a 1952. Noticed fan belt worn/loose but when I got a new belt to put on, there is no give in moving the alternator in or out. Alternator rubs against the steering arm. Noticed in Steiner catalog they have a smaller diameter alternator. Is this my only alternative to being able to tighten the belt to get a new smaller alternator? The new belt is a 5/8" by 36 1/2". Thanks for any suggestions.

Most AC from that era had a fan pulley that could be adjust for width, making the belt tighter or looser. Most of them are stuck and a bi&^h to get loose and working. But this might do it.
