: I have replaced the gear on the starter motor to my 1945 WC for the second time this year due to chewed up teeth. Inspection of the ring gear shows no burrs (unless I missed them), but the ring gear seems to be relieved between each tooth on the transmission side face. I would assume this for smoother engagement into the ring gear.
: Is this normal or is it the possible cause of the starter gear problem?

:This is normal, I had a similiar problem and it turned out that the nose bushing on the starter was wore out. This did not allow the teeth to align or mesh completely. Good Luck

Thanks Roy, I had that bushing replaced on the rebuild. Probably work this time.
