If the front wheel assist was driven by the PTO, it could of taken two trannys to get the speed needed to match the front end.

Have looked over the pic a few times. Would like to spend an hour or two up close to it.
This is what I get from the pic, have been wrong many times before & maybe wrong again.
1-just forward of steering support looks like WD style straight shifter.
2-forward of that shifter looks like handle for a hyd valve, with extension rod pointing rearward withing driver's reach.
3-below gas tank, rearward of headlight looks like WC style shift tower, with the handle bending around to the taller knob. Maybe 2 transmissions.
4-no opinion on the hyd tank on frame rail.
5-in the shadow just forward of the hyd tank, below the headlight, looks like round belt pully block off cup.
6-below the frame rail, is that a pto shaft? very easy to reverse the pto box below trans to point shaft forward.
7-looks like Delco mag to dist converter, dist is pointing upward. not sure, but think WD45 came with dist from factory. that would have cap pointing rearward, similar to mag.
Now that I have everybody confused, will say bye-bye.
Willie

It looks like a WD 45 and the 45s were built between 53 and 57. As far as I know Allis Chalmers didn't build a WD 45 with 4 wheel drive. Looks like something somebody added to tractorin latter years.

hydro driven? bet that makes her a real go getter looks like they may have used the belt pulley to power it. More details?

I just saw the picture on another site, thought you guys might like to see it.

had not noticed or thought about how they powered the front wheel assist.

I see that box on the side where the belt pulley would normally have been.

you think that is some type hydraulic pump driving the front wheels?

would almost have to be, as that tractor would not have had a front pto to operate the front wheels.
