Still getting the bugs / cobwebs out of my 39 wc . Everything is good except I now have rust in the tank -- go figure after sitting in the bush for many years L.O.L. any good ideas guys how to remove it without taking the tank off ? I pulled her on the weekend and she run perfect and now she won't rust in the sediment bowl

I have a D-17 that has a rust problem and I have tried a few things but so far none have worked other then I clean the sediment bowl once a day if I use it and been doing that for a couple years now and never had any problems other then having to replace the gasket once in awhile

I don't know how to get it out on tractor. But you could take it off and get it cleaned and lined. If you can't get it clean see if you can find someone to fabricate you a new one(stainless steel no rust problems).

I read this on one of these sights and it worked for me. I had a good amount of rust in my tank. The tank comes off real easy. Put a couple hands full of pea gravel in with about a half gallon of gasoline. Tie a rope around it and hang it from a tree about waist high and gently shake it. Took about two hours, but the gravel removed almost all the rust. I flushed it with the garden hose and let it dry over night.

pour some water and muratic acid or other rust remover like Lime Away in and let it clean the rust.
Flush with water and dry. Tank will need to be coated/lined with gas tank sealer to keep the rust from reforming.

I had some success with carburator cleaner and power washing until no more gunk will come out which most likely is not going to solve a rust only problem but after soaking a while a lot of tanks are better than you expect when the old gas is gone.

What I seen that keeps almost anything running is a little tube on the sediment bowel(some are made with them) sticking up in the tank 3/4"-1" so you are not sucking the rust off the very bottom of the tank. Some Sediment bowels can be fitted with the little screen that fits up in the tank but that must be difficult to clean if ever needed.
Sure there is always some gas in the tank that you can't use but it better than being stuck with a poorly running or not running engine all the time.

The tank has set for a amount of time. I found out there is no short cut in a rusted tank. I found the best tank cleaner is a cement mixer and a hand full of lock washers. I go to my local rental place with a few pillows, tank and washers. A couple cups of coffee around the corner. Clean tank no charge They love talking about it.
