Would someone know if a FM-J4B3 and a FM-J4B73 Magneto are the same? I know one is AC and the other is Ford. What I need to know is, are they interchangeable? They look the same other then the shut off is in a different location.

FMJ is the model number. The 4 means is for a 4 cylinder. The B means it is flange mount. THe 3 means AC and the 73 means Ford. Like mentioned, it might have a slightly different advance, but basically it is the same unit. I think it should work. I have used several others besides the "3" and work o.k..... Just dont use one that says 2 instead of 4 cyl, or V (Vee block)instead of inline.

I brought a data sheet up and it said what each letter and # ment. That's what brought up my ? As FM J4s all look alike. The only problem is the AC FM-J4B3 mags shut off is right behind the fan on a Ford. The Ford shut down is on the end of mag. Thanks

I don't know for sure, but often the lag time is different.
