Can anyone suggest a source for the starter drive (Bendix) for the 5040 series?

Bosch has a solid reputation in its products and yours is a good experienced suggestion. I believe this tractor"s starter is a Marelli but the failure may not be due to their product. The thrust collar on the motor shaft was missing and the drive "machined "away the shell on the drive through contact with the nose casting. The motor is good so I was looking for the low cost solution for this friend"s tractor.

I have no idea what your experience with this tractor might be. When they were new, we had trouble with original starters. "Marelli" comes to mind, but may not be right. I wouldn't waste any money on one of them. I believe back then we found a Bosch to fit. Seems like a starter shop should be able to help. Also, since Fiat has such a major presence now, parts for my Fiat(Allis) dozer are easier than ever to obtain. Local Agco dealer had fuel lift pump, manifold gaskets right in stock, because they're used on some tractors.
