D17 series III Hydraulic problem

My D17 hydraulic lift arms all of a sudden quit holding a load. If I raise the implement lever and leave it in up position I can push the arms back down. I was using a haybine to mow hay when I noticed the problem. I checked hydraulic level which was low. I added oil but didn"t seem to help. How can I tell if problem is in the ram, or pump?

Thanks for any assistance

Charlie

Were you using a remote cylinder on the haybine? What was that doing?
If the rockshaft cylinder, or the internal hose going to it leaks, your trans. oil level will rise.

I checked the trans oil Bob and it does appear to be at high level. Guess I"ll take the rear housing off this weekend to see what's going on. Thanks for your reply.
