Hi all,
My dad and I just picked up this G-138 power unit today. I understand that these had basically the same engine as the D-10 and D-12 tractors. This one was used to power a Scrambler carnival ride. (I believe that's what he said it was.) Anyway, it looks to be a neat little toy to have. The guy said it would crank but you know how that goes because he said it had been a while since he had fired it up. When we got it home we cleaned the points, added some gas and a battery cable terminal, hooked up a battery and gave it a whirl. After a couple of trys we heard it fire and we knew we were close. Another couple of trys and she fired up and ran. There's a little smoke (previous owner said it didn't) and an occasional miss but it does run! Possibly just a stuck ring from sitting. We ran it for a few minutes and it seemed to smoke a little less. Maybe with some more run time it might stop smoking. Anyway, it's not too bad. Have look:
It has been painted a few times and has been yellow, blue, and now green. Would the original color have been safety yellow or AC orange? We're probably going to clean it up, fix a few little things, straighten the sheet metal, and give it some fresh paint. It should be well received at a tractor show don't you think? Here's a video of it running: http://youtu.be/-jwpjhmceoo.
