D15 Transmission

Looking at a D15 at a dealers, good tin and runs well. They say it has some transmission problems, something about a needle bearing. Is this a common thing?...Ron

They are known for trans problems. What are the "problems"? Usualy the problem is they are wont stay in gear and usualy 3rd or 2nd or both. There is a needle bearing at the jucture of the input shaft and main shaft but to my knowledge it isn't a trouble spot. Maybe somebody at the dealer that knows but I would guess a sales pitch. To rebuild one correctly is a sled load of money and for the price differances between "trans works OK" tractors and "has trans problems" tractors I would find one without problems myself.

When I rebuilt the trans on my 14, neary the same thing, I had to replace 2nd, 3rd, and forth, got 4th as aftermarket, when it was ready to be put back togather, I had over thirteen hundred in parts.
