Allis Chalmers 6040

I am looking to trade for an Allis Chalmers 6040. What can you tell me about these tractors? I looked on tractor data and it said only 499 were built. Would parts be hard to get? Thanks! Morgan

If I remember correctly that's just the newer style AC/Renault 160.
If you want to take a chance- someone on here recently asked about a 5050. Since that's a Fiat, there's a lot better chance of getting parts, if you can figure out how.

The 6040 is a 160 in new clothes, for the 1974 model year..the
last year for the 160/6040. The tractor used a 152 cu in 3
cylinder Perkins diesel. Parts are available from multiple sources
as this was a very popular engine. The 160/6040 was a reliable
unit, but had a low volume hydraulic system, 6.7 gpm. Takes
some time to raise loader arms. I would stay away from a unit
with a loader on it as the dry clutch was not suited for heavy
loader work, in a typical ag environment. If it was used by a part
timer/weekender, it may be just fine. The 6040 is reliable, but
like many people indicate AGCO prices are higher than a cat's
back!!!! I owned a 160 many years ago...good little haying
tractor and it actually handled a JD 24T with ejector and pull
behind wagon just fine.
