what year is my b??

I have an B allis with elect. start has been changed over to 12 volt, foot brakes. But i have been calling it a 39, but a shows ppl tell me its not, its newer? The serial number is 18524, any help? Thanks
 
B18524 would be 1939. Anything could have been changed or added in the last 70 years. 1939 would also have handbrakes as stock.
 
there is a second serial number on the motor bell housing lip on the left side. Might be able to show that motor is newer. I had a 39-40 model that i switch from hand to foot brakes. Also drilled the block to hold a generator bracket.
 
yea, the motor has no place to mount the alt. to. I think someone has changed the torgue tube out from a newer tractor. So what should I say it is a 39 still?
 
Call it a 39,doesn't matter if it's been changed. Look at all the unstyled WC's out there with electric start, they never came from the factory like that.
 
If your motor block is not tapped for the generator mount, and you have a 39 serial number on the transmission, then i would call it a 1939.
 
There should be a casting number on the block on the right side. It should start with AM followed by some numbers and then a dash and then two numbers.
If the last two numbers are 10 the engine is probably a 38 and if they are 11 it's probably a 39 and 12 for a 1940.
This will tell you around when the engine was made but that doesn't mean it's the year the tractor was built.
 
I have a 1941 WC that has had the rear end switched out for one from a 1938 parts tractor. Of course the ser.# is stamped on the rear end on a WC. I just call mine a WC!! Kip
 
you can go to external_link they have a section on their page where you can cross reference your tractor's ser.# with the dates listed. I just bought a B today 2/7/12, I checked it's ser.# & it's a 1948. It's a good site, lots of info!
