Bought a D17 would like to know what type of fluid to use in the tourqe tube for power director and what type fluid for the transmission and hydraulics. Or is it all the same. There is two dipsticks one on tourqe tube and one on trans top cover. It is a late 59 or early 60 model serial # 20082. thanks for the help.

sorry about post read one of the d14 couple post down. my question now is do final drives use same fluid as trans.

calls for 80w in the final drives. 90w or 80w90 gear oil is fine too. I guess if UTF is ok for the tranny it should be fine for the final drives too, but never heard of any body using it in them.

Allis-Chalmers final drives usaully all have a howl to them. Hy-trans in them would make it even louder. Stick to gear oil in finals.

Use Hy/Trans fluid in the transmission, hydraulics, and power director. Rear end and final drives 80/90w. There are two dipsticks just behind the shifter. The left side sitting in the seat has a large nut, that is rear end. The right side is the transmission. The hydraulics fill is on the right side of the tractor on the side of the torque tube.

Thanks texas allis was wondering where oil fill was for diff. Do you pull the pans off bottom of final drives to drain them and when refilling does fluid flow out the axles to fill finals back up or is there plugs for that also.thanks for the help.

The final drives are separated from the transmission. There is a plug in the side of the pans.
Remove pans on final drives to drain old oil and clean the gunk out...look for metal shavings.
