I HAVE A ALLIS CHALMER MODEL C, I KNOW THE FIRING ORDER IS 1-2-4-3. WHAT IS A EASY WAY TO TELL IF I HAVE THE NO. 1 PISTON IN THE RIGHT PLACE TO START THE FIRING ORDER?

Not sure what you mean [#1 piston in the right place].......If you just want to place plug wires #1 piston dont mean anything. Just stick them on. #1 cylinder is closest to front of tractor and there should be a mark on mag/dist cap to show you were #1 is to get you started.

Let us know if you are acually trying to bring #1 top dead center to put the motor in time agian. Im sure we can help ya out.

Ok....
I usually pull all my plugs

Then use hand crank with my finger over #1 till it starts to push air/my finger off.

Then put a screwdriver in plug hole and continue to roll motor slowly untill it come to top of stroke. there should be a mark on your crank pully also.

once top dead adjust mag/dist button to #1 on cap.

Tada!!!!
best of luck

Simple you get the #1 piston up at TDC I use a light and a screw diver to be sure of that. You have a 50/50 chance to get it correct so I just go from there. If it starts then I got it right if it back fires then I know I am 180 out and switch them around it is very simple to do it that way and ya you have a 50/50 chance but hey it is easy to switch them around

garage is right about the finger in front plug hole, and turning motor slowly. when you get to TDC you will see a mark on the flywheel looking thru the 1 inch hole on the side of the bell housing. Mag should snap, or distributor point open at TDC.

Thanks steve....I assume he figgured it out, he was very fast to answer me last night. Like to know how he made out.

THANKS FOR ALL THE INFORMATION, WON'T GET TO TRY IT UNTIL THIS WEEKEND, BUT WILL LET YOU KNOW HOW IT TURNS OUT

You remove the sparkplug near the radiator and hold your thumb over the plug while a helper hand cranks the engine slowly until you feel pressure against your thumb. Once you feel that pressure drop a long plastic straw on top of the piston and have the helper to keep cranking slowly as you watch the straw rise. When the straw quits rising your No1 piston should be at TDC on the compression stroke. Both valves on that cylinder should be closed too. Remove the cap and see if your rotor is pointing to your No1 plug wire on the cap. If its way off you need to pull the mag or distributor and rotate the rotor so its pointing to the No1 plug wire and reinstall. Hal

Here's how your plug wires need to be on the cap. Hal
