in the factory the ring gear is made in one place, the pinion shaft in another. so how are they coming up with a matched set?like the mechanics tell me; you have to replace both.can I just replace the shaft? thanks.

when their new it makes no difference, but after the've been installed and ran, the make a pair. put a used ring with a different pinion and it will howl. neighbor did that on a 17, you couldn't stand to be on the tractor.
