WD_45 Crankshaft Oil Seals

Is it worthwhile to replace just the lower part of front and rear seals? The rear seal is leaking a lot......running heavy oil, but it still leaks. Don't have time to remove engine this summer for a complete replacement. Comments appreciated.............RP

Not worthwhile to do half a job. Some years ago someone posted pix here of how to replace the rear main while in the tractor, using wire and two strips of plastic. I"m 2 states away from home now, so can"t send the link I printed out, but last time this happened, someone else did post a direct link, and the pix are in it.

Most rope seals can be replaced in the block with a tool from KD tools. It is a form of Chinese handcuff with a cable to pull the new one through.

Drop oil pan remove last main cap and unbolt or rotate top seal holder out install new seal.
