non engaging pto on allis c

Hello,
Put a loader on allis c, sometimes just randomly when I engage the pto shaft (to lift bucket) it doesn"t want to engage and I cant lift the bucket so I just sit there and wait and hope it will engage, so far it always seems to engage so I can get on with things,.... Anyone here have any thoughts about what might be causing this? ... I push the clutch in and wait quite a while before trying to engage the pto, and I"m using tractor hytrans fluid in the differential, though I"m not using the pump on the tractor, I got a pto pump I"m using. Thanks in advance

i assume you mean the transmission shaft will not stop spinning and if you try to engage the PTO lever you can hear grinding noise ? If you throttle down to 600 RPM, that should make it stop spinning. Other thing is if your going to use the loader, engage the PTO prior to starting the motor.... its just drag thru the cluth and top shaft of the trans.
