Gas tank mount on a 48 model C

The gas tank on my C has a strap type bracket with a loop on the end nearest the operator where a bolt goes through. The toolbox has a small bracket riveted to it for that bolt. I haven't seen this set-up yet on any other C. Is this a tank off another Allis like maybe a CA? Thanks for your time. Gerard

All of the C's that I have had, which is eight, have had the strap. The early B's had a bracket the bolted into the tool box/tank support instead of the strap. Later B's had the strap also. I have B's with both of which I have had seven. All of my B's and C's were owned by more than one owner before I bought them and could have had many modifications over the many years before I saw them.

The CA tanks had a indentation on the right side where the upper type starter rod was positioned.

Do you guy's know if the tank without the strap was ever used on a C. I found a tank w/o the strap in very good condition. Previous owner said it was off of a Allis C. My tank has dents and loose Red Kote inside and since I'm not a bodyman I was hoping to start with a dent-free tank. Again thank you for your time. Gerard

I think the top strap replaced a bracket that used to be welded to the bottom of the tank, and bolted to the "tool box" panels below it. I think the newer set up had that bracket there, but not welded to the tank, but with a pad on it. Then the bolt/strap on top held it down. You could probably switch tanks around, you just might need to change some of these other things too.

Dick,

You say early and later Bs. What would the years be fore the early and later Bs?

My 41 has the no strap gas tank and the 45 has the strap. Who knowa if they are original, but I assume they are.

John

I really do not know when they switched the B's but my guess would be once they started making them for the C they switched the B so they wouldn't have double inventory of the same type part.
