working on a wd that a friend of mine has, its been converted to 12v. has a delco alt. on it. some how {he says he dont know} all the wires have been disconnected. i need to know where they go.
2 wires coming from the alt. 1 wire coming from the coil
i also noticed that there is no resiter going to the coil.

On a Delco alternator there should be 3 wires. One from the big post that goes to the battery in some way. Then you have a 2 wire plug. That plug is marked with a #1 and a #2 the #2 wire goes to the big post and the #1 goes to the ignition switch the side that is hot when turned on. You can also go to the coil the ignition side that is. You do need a light bulb or diode like the radio shack 276-1661 in that wire or you can have trouble shutting the engine off

Well that is one of a good many ways to wire one. I bet I have seen at least 10 ways to wire them up and all of them work

the 10 ohm , 10 watt resistor on the alternator is BIG. About 3/8 inch square and 2 inches long. You can get at Radio Shack for about $2. 10 watts is a lot of power ( high current) for this application.
