another post said it had an automotive type engine.... Years ago a fellow swore that allis made a tractor with chev engine that he used on irrigation pumps.
 
The only Chevy engines used by A-C were in Gleaner combines.
The ED40 is a British built diesel tractor that they imported to the U.S. and Canada that resembles a D series tractor. They used a Standard brand engine that was not a good cold weather starting engine. They also had a hydraulic system flaw that caused the bell crank on the rear lift arms to break through the housing. The poor starting and the hydraulic problems did them in here.
