d17 oil filter

I just bought a diesel d17 it has no oil pressure but seems to run fine. gauge is good,pulled the oil filter cannister off and there is no element in it the # just behind the engine reads 31306D. what brand of filter do I need and what number do I need thanks Marvin
 
I like to use WIX filters. They should make one for that application. A good parts store should have it or be able to get it quickly. They should also have the parts manuals to look it up. Just call them.

Did you try a different gauge and got no reading? The rotating assembly I'm told by long time A-C dealer was pretty tough. I'm in the process of overhauling one right now. The mains and rods are pressurized, the cam bearings are not. Is it oiling the rockers? They have an external oil line to the head. The early 262's have a bypass valve in the front left side of the block. Later ones have it relocted to the oil pump discharge tube.
 
The rockers are getting oil ,the engine seems to be getting oil it runs great,we put a filter in it and now the oil gauge goes up to about 20 and then goes down to 0 thanks for all the help marvin
