Removal of PTO assembly

I have a 39 B and want to remove PTO assembly. Does it come off as a unit ? I'm checking for a noise I hear that gets louder when PTO is engaged

Yep comes off as a complete unit. I do not remember how many bolts but once all are out it will just pull out but it is a tad on the heavy side so hold on tight

Well not quite unless the snap ring is gone and the gear will slide off the end of the shaft. You will need to push the lever forward as far as you can while twisting the back of the unit to the right some. The seat will be in the road to be able to see what you are doing unless you have a small narrow head. So much easier after the second time. Same going back on.
