Too late now but a simple diode is much better than a new cut-out. No moving parts. The field circuit is grounded in the light switch. Is it going to ground some other place? Also what is the position of the third brush and do you have a good Voltmer you can use to check the generator voltage with?

Need to check voltage tomorrow also will check the 3rd brush, didn't even know it was ajustable untill I read some old posts on here. Needle on the amp meter goes to 20amps at anything above idle and stays there at idle it bounces around very eratic, may even read a discharge????When I shut the switch off it may read 0 or it may read a slight discharge??? Then when I turn the key off it will read 20amps discharge, contacts stuck at cutout which is brand new???? DOESN'T do it all the time but DOES it enough!!!

OK,did a little checking with a voltmeter today,I have 6.50 volts on BOTH generator posts with the ingintion switch off and the light switch off???
With the switches off all I have to do is push the contact together on the cutout and they stick instant discharge!!!!

Today's Featured Article - Major Problems - by Anthony West. Following the aquisition of the two Fordsons to my collection I found that I was struggling to move them about. I had considered the possibility of driving the "F" to and from shows but anything other than local rallies was totaly impractical due to its sedate pace. I had also considered buying a landrover and trailer, but the price of a ... [Read Article]
