what to look for on d-15

anything to look for on a 63 d-15 outside of the norm? I ve heard that some of them had trans. problems (pop out of 3rd gear) my bigget worry is how sharp the tractor is for the money / askin 4000 and tractor looks perfect (new paint, rear tires etc..) its a trade in at a dealer any other thoughts or concerns?
thanxs Chris

Rear rim rust- PD popping out- Trans. jumping out of gear- Fluids in the right compartments, meaning no seals leaking in between, this would be hard to spot unless a compartment is over full- If it is a 63, then it"s a Series II making it a 160cu engine am told they are expensive to work on. I own a 63 snap coupler, Ps/wide frt. The PD will pop out of Hi once in a great while if I slam it into Hi range rather then shift it smoothly when the oil is still cold. They are really a nice tractor.

its a 63 but the head lights are still on the front fender like a series 1 or is that not a sure fire way to tell?
thanks again

Series 1 had headlights on the side of the radiator cowl. Series 2 have them on the fenders.

Series 1 has the muffler and air intake on the same side.

Series 1 has stamped aluminum "Allis Chalmers" panels on the side; Series 2 had a painted/decal name panel.
