190 foot clutch

I bought a 67 190 gas in Jan.to put on my snowblower. Worked great until I went to move it this morn. Pushed cluth pedal to change gears,heard a POP,clutch went all the way down and does"t return. Can still control it with power director, but have to stop engine to switch gears. Is there an external spring that broke or am I looking at a split job??? Haven"t had a chance to pull off the side sheet metal to look yet. Thanks for the help, Jim

Should be just a spring that broke.Check underneath and see but from what your describing and w/o me looking at it then that is what I would say your problem is.

my bet is that the finger on pressure plate broke off. and relese bearing went past then and bottom out inside presure plate, most likely well need to replace the clutch.
