B engine serial #

I see lots of info on the engine serial numbers starting with CE --- I don't have anything like that on my 42 B. All I can find on the engine is the casting numbers AM-4033-8 IS there any other serial numbers on the block? If so, where are they?
 
Look here to the left of the yellow mark on the engine flange.

The yellow mark on this tractor is on the torque tube flange. Look just to the left of the yellow mark on the engine flange.

Are you sure of the casting number you posted?
It shoud read AMxxxx-xx
The last 2 X's should be a number 10 through 30
 
For a 116 CI engine the serial number should start with BE.
Look on the back of the engine below the head.
 
My engine is on a stand, all cleaned up so it's quite easy to see. There are no numbers stamped anywhere on it. I've checked every flange & everywhere else that I can think of. Casting number is AM-4033-8
It doesn't really matter alot, I was just curious, but it strikes me as odd that there's no stamped numbers on it. Tractor is # B59917 which would make it a '42.
 
Strange you can't find a number.
If I'm correct the B's in 1942 only came with the 116 ci BE engine.
I don't think the CE 125ci was used on the B's until 1944.
Look really close on the back of the block below the head for a number starting with BE.
The casting number codes I have do not have an 8 at the end of any year. ???????
On my chart a 1942 engine for the B should have ended with 14.
Sorry I can't give you an answer about that engine.
 
If you do find a number it should fall into this group.

Jeff Z, Add this one to your chart. The other day I actually sanded the flanges lightly to try to find a number to no avail. Nothing on the back below the head, either. As soon as the head comes back from the machine shop the whole thing will be orange, so I guess we'll never know, lol. Thanks for your help though. I will continue to keep my eyes open for something.
 
Looks like one I have out here that came off a CA that came from a military base out east some where. I'll check the number this morning (if I can get to the engine) I remember it had an odd casting number. When I removed the engine it looked like new on the inside. The manifold was in bad shape and the carburetor had been whacked around. I was told at the time that the military did not overhaul an engine that they would install a new crate short block.
Not sure that the fellow knew what he was talking about and have not spent any time checking it out more.

Maybe and that is a (just maybe) a run of block castings were made as emplacement parts after the last production tractors were assembled.

Don't take that to the bank it is just a thought.
 
Dick, i have never seen a CE motor with a A4033 casting number. Got any ideas why they changed ?????? Is there something different on that cast block as compared to the standard CE block??
 
That has to be a later engine or from a power unit. It has the embossing for a fuel pump.
Don't know why it doesn't have a serial # in the flange. It should start with CR. Bob
 
I looked the best I could and didn't find the one I have or had. I remember the AM 40 but am not sure about the last two numbers. They started to put the arrow shaped deal on the blocks with the start of the CA production. The one I have or had I bought over 12 years ago and lost track of where it might be.

It would be a replacement block for your B in anyway regardless of what is was built for or where it came from. The bare block inside dimensions would be the same as the one that came on your B.
