I have the clutch off, and would like to clean it up. I was wondering what i could use. It's mostly covered with caked on dirt. thanks

Brake Parts cleaner works well...may need to do it in a pan and brush it ..Evaporates quickly and removes oil residue completely..

I would probably start with a little gas in the pan, to get the worst of the oil out.. Kerosene, if you not so inclined....

Works on brake linings too...

My father always cleaned oily brake shoes with hot water, tide detergent and a good stiff scrub brush. Unless they were extremely oil soaked they would clean up nice and work well again. I don't see why that wouldn't work for a slightly oily clutch disc either. Considering what a job it is to change it again it would be best to replace them if the price is reasonable.

There are brake and clutch cleaners on the market.
Wynns make one.
