What engine do I Have

I bought a WD with tractor serial #WD25384 which I believe should make it a 1949 WD. The engine serial # is WD228001GA I found a web site that shows that that engine # should be for a 1949 WD. What I'm not sure about is I have read on here that the WD engine had a plate on the distributer side that runs the lenght of the block mine does not have that. It also has a power crater decal on the block which I know could have just been added at some point. I don't know a lot about Allis Chalmers so any help would be great Thanks

Original 45 engine SN would start with 45-. Maybe a dealer replaced the orginal with a 45 block, unmarked, and stamped the original serial number on it? Why? dunno. 45 would be the Power Crater engine- never know what"s been done in decades!

Like JMS says, when dealers replaced a block they were supposed to transfer the serial number.
I have a WD-45 with a block with no serial number.
Later replacement blocks, whether used for WD or WD-45 were the WD-45 style.
So, you may have a 201 engine or a 226 engine depending on whether or not the original 4" stroke crank and internals were used.
Some of the pulling gurus on here may be able to tell you how to check the stroke without pulling the pan but I can"t.
