D 14 slight backfiring

I have a d14 that I think is backfiring slightly. I just rebuilt the carb to correct it but it didn"t help. It does it throughout the entire rpm range. It takes several seconds to do it ( like 5 or 6 seconds and then it pops a little through the carb. Any Idea what that could be?

Check timing and points gap... replace points and condensor if time

Might be too lean.

Is the distributor shaft tight? Excessive wear in the bushing causes the shaft to flop around and change the timing.

I timed it. It was ok. I ended up looking at valve timing and found a rocker arm adjustment screw fell out, so the valve was floating. I adjusted all the valves, rechecked timing and now it runs nicely.
