WD-45 PTO Noise

Hi All,

Last weekend at a threshing show (Forest City Threshers), I put my 1954 WD-45 on a dyno to check hp. The good news is that, after the overhaul last year, I am making 52hp! The bad news is that, when we were really working the engine on the dyno, I started hearing some clunking noises down low on the tractor. Made me think that maybe there could be a problem in the PTO gearbox. At lighter loads (40-45 hp) there was no noise. Just at the high loads.

Any suggestions on what I need to do or check? Do I need to take the PTO gearbox off and inspect the gears and bearings?

Thanks for your input.

Sounds like you have a tooth broke off one of the two gears. drain oil take pto unit off you will see whats wrong hopefully.
