I would like to dump the transmission fluid and hydraulic fluid out of my 1950 Allis-Chalmers B. What type fluids are available today that will work? Do the hydraulics use the same fluid as the transmission? Any info will help! Thanks!

Tranny and hyds are the one and the same fluid. I my self use hy=tran or UTF in my C which is pretty much the same as the B is as far as the fluids

yes- what old said. HYTRANS or universal tractor fluid, etc. there are three drain plugs under the trans, bevel gear, and pto. one fill by your left foot on the trans case. takes about 8 quarts.

I was told to run 80-90 gear oil in mine. The mechanic i asked said hydraulic fluid is to thin for the old hydraulic pumps .

im afraid that 80-90 gear lube would gall up the pump, if it pumps at all. it will not pump that thick oil. you need thinner hydraulic fluid. the oil should be a 20 or 30 weight like the universal tractor fluid.
