Ive never been near a WD, now I bought one for my boy, since dad gave me a 50 B JD when I left home, I feel obligated to give my son and daughter the samd head start. ANYWAY, How do the foot clutches work. Which one runs the trctor, and which one runs the live pto? How come the hand clutch hits my knee and rests on it when pulled back, Im 5ft 8in tall. How come the hand clutch falls forward unless held back? How come the power lift worked ok till after I bought and brought it home LOL. Which lever engages the power lift, and how do I check the hydrolic oil, and were do I fill it? The guy I bought it from says it had been overhauled, and rebored so as to bring it to 40hp. Think thats possible? It sounds fine, BUT What was its origional hp?

The foot clutch works like any tractors clutch. The hand clutch is an extra that gives you a live PTO, it also is a wet clutch that allows you to slip the clutch without burning it out. This is one of the things I like most on the tractor. Yours is out of adjustment and a manual will be your best bet for adjusting it. You do not need to use it at all if you do not want to.
The hydraulics are filled by the dipstick by the foot clutch. There are also two fill plugs behind it for the wet clutch and transmission.
Left lever for your lift and right for throttle.
Hope this helps.

LOL, Went to a tractor show once with 2 tractors, WD45 with a sickle mower and a WD with a subsoiler. Well, DW says she would be happy to drive the WD up to the showgrounds. As I drive away I glance back and see my sweetie with a puzzled look on her face. I go back and ask her what the problem is. The hydraulics won't lift she says. I am immediately into trouble shooting mode and don't see a problem. Until...."dear, the hydraulics don't work when you have the clutch depressed!"

Check the settings on the pump control, the pump can be put in nuetral by screwing the valve on the front of the control in or out, I can't remember which.

Your hand clutch may need an adjustment to "snap" into place.

It is very possible that the WD could be very near 40HP, with a WD45 crank you would get there very easily.

The WD is a very neat little tractor that was an industry leader for innovation. A lot of tractor in a small package.

Owner and repair manuals are inexpensive and will answer a lot of your questions.
